Canonical’s Ubuntu Pro, a Linux security maintenance subscription service that covers hundreds of open-source programs and toolchains, is now publicly accessible as of January 26.

Ubuntu Pro, which was released in beta in October, assists users of Linux desktops and servers in receiving CVE (common vulnerabilities and exposures) fixes, hardening their systems at scale, and remaining compliant with standards such as FedRAMP, HIPPA, and PCI-DSS. Beyond the primary OS, Ubuntu Pro protects against critical, high, and chosen medium CVEs in apps and toolchains ranging from Ansible and Apache Tomcat to Node.js, Puppet, PowerDNS, Redis, Rust, and WordPress.

Ubuntu Pro is available for all Ubuntu LTS releases beginning with 16.04 LTS and is already in use by large-scale clients. In addition to security fixes, Ubuntu Pro delivers tools for managing compliance in regulated and audited environments.

Furthermore, the business claims that Ubuntu Security Guide supports best-in-class hardening and compliance requirements such as CIS benchmark and DISA-STIG profiles. Ubuntu users now have access to FIPS-certified cryptographic packages required by all federal agencies, as well as enterprises operating in accordance with HIPPA, FedRAMP, and PCI-DSS.

The Landscape system management tool enables automated patching at scale. Livepatch is also included, which repairs serious and high-severity kernel vulnerabilities at runtime, reducing unnecessary reboots.
